StreamNotch vs the OBS Stats dock
The Stats dock inside OBS is accurate and detailed. It lives inside the OBS window, which is usually behind the app you are recording.
| Feature | StreamNotch | The OBS Stats dock |
|---|---|---|
| Status visible over full-screen apps | ||
| Dropped and skipped frames | ||
| Disk space remaining | ||
| Alerts when thresholds are crossed | ||
| Warns about a muted or silent mic | ||
| MacBook battery and heat warnings | ||
| Black or frozen camera detection |
Numbers vs. warnings
The Stats dock is a great diagnostic tool. StreamNotch reads similar data through obs-websocket and applies rules with sensible defaults you can change: dropped frames over 2% in the last minute, less than 10 GB or 15 minutes of disk left, a mic below −50 dBFS for 20 seconds.
Signals OBS doesn’t have
StreamNotch also watches your Mac: running on battery, Low Power Mode, thermal throttling, and whether a camera has frozen or a display capture has gone black.
